LEGEND OF THE CLINCH COUNTY PANTHER
In Clinch County, around
the turn of the 20th century, on a warm, moonlit, starry
night in August a group of high school boys were on a camping trip
and started discussing the idea of a school mascot. Many
suggestions were made but
in the midst of the
discussion, a loud, blood curdling, scream of a black panther was heard.
One of the boys yelled Panthers! Immediately the boys knew as
fierce as that Panther sounded that the Clinch County mascot must be
a Panther. |
This group of young men approached the school authorities with the
suggestion and it was accepted and that’s how we have evolved into the
Clinch County Panthers over the last 70 plus years. The school colors have
evolved into Red, White and Black. With Black representing the shiny coat
of the Panther and white being his gleaming teeth and red his eyes.
Every one who has walked the halls of CCHS should be proud to be a Clinch
County Panther and school pride and spirit must be held to the highest
honor. Remember the tradition of a Clinch County Panther covers the span of
academic endeavors including honor graduate, math team, literary events such
as essay, one act play and debate, band competitions and festivals. This
tradition also includes other extracurricular activities such as Mock Trial,
Special Olympics, club activities including Beta, FFA, FBLA, FCCA, TSA, and
FCA and, of course, our athletic teams which consist of ALL the ball teams
in which we are ALL a part of the Mighty Winning Panthers.
You are charged to take the honor of being a Clinch County Panther very
seriously. Always remember no matter what you do, what you participate in,
or where life make take you–Once
a Clinch County Panther Always a Clinch County Panther. |
