Dear Students and Parents:
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to
Clinch County High School. CCHS has a very proud history, filled with rich
traditions and many accomplishments, both academic and extracurricular. I
urge you, the students, to become actively involved in your academic studies
as well as extracurricular activities.
Last year was a great year at CCHS. CCHS was a 2006
Gold Award Winner for Greatest Gain in meeting and exceeding academic
standards. Our graduation rate for the 2006-07 school year was approximately
75%. For the first time since the implementation of No Child Left Behind, we
exceeded the state average for graduation rate. Also, the Georgia Public
Policy Foundation Report Card for Parents ranked CCHS 47 out of 369 public
high schools in the state of Georgia.
During the 2006-07 school year, we continued developing
and refining our interventions for students who were not meeting our
standards. This intervention program provides additional time and support
during the school day for these students. Students who meet our academic
standards are provided with enrichment opportunities during this time. These
students will be allowed to complete thirty minute, nine-week enrichment
courses such as wildlife and art appreciation, chess, sign language,
etiquette, fashion design, photography, and CPR.
While we have accomplished much, our goal as a school is
to continually improve. To improve, we must evaluate our current data,
identify areas that need improvement, then develop and implement strategies,
programs, etc, that will improve these targeted areas. For the 2006-07 school
year, we will be implementing the first, of hopefully many, AP courses.
Students who complete these courses may be able to earn college credit in
addition to high school credit. We will offer AP Literature this year and AP
Calculus next year.
We, as a school, will be doing all we can do to ensure
that all students learn at high levels which will increase our
graduation rate. However, we can not accomplish this goal by ourselves.
Students, I urge you to focus more on your academic studies. It is extremely
important that you attend school. Do not get behind. I repeat, do not get
behind. Ask questions, do your assignments, ask for extra help if you need
it.
Parents, please, please, become more actively involved in
your child’s education. Please emphasize school attendance. Students cannot
learn if they are not at school. Please emphasize high academic expectations
for your child. Also, please monitor the academic progress of your child
closely. Make it a priority to visit and call your child’s teachers. Let
them know that “ Failure is Not an Option” for your child and that you are
willing to do whatever it takes for them to excel and receive a diploma. Come
early, come often. You are always welcome at CCHS. With this type of
expectation, involvement, support, and encouragement, I believe that your
child will have a very successful high school experience.
In closing, I would like to say that it is truly an honor
for me to serve as principal of Clinch County High School. I believe that if
we work together to ensure high levels of learning and a high school diploma
for all, then Failure will Not be an Option any longer for our students.
Sincerely,
Alvin Henderson, Principal
Clinch County School System
